What is a Coach?

A coach is a trained professional, certified in one of several modalities of coaching.  In a coaching relationship the coach listens to what the client is saying as well as for what they are not saying, where the client is living up to their dreams or cutting themselves short.  The coach moves the client out of  their “story & drama” and into “choice & opportunity”.

“The coach holds the light for the clients as the client does the work that needs to be done.”

Anyone who has the answers and solutions is not a coach, but is a mentor, a consultant or a friend.  If  the coach provides anything it would be powerful questions that work to deepen the client’s life and their learning about themselves and their potential.

What Coaching is!

Each coaching session is different, unique to the client and to what the client is facing at the time of  the session. Generally, coaching is about creating clarity of vision for the client and empowering the  client to discover their personal vision, goal or dream.

In the highest sense, coaching is ultimately about the client.

  • The client is the center of the coaching relationship.
  • The client decides what needs to be addressed, what needs to be examined and what needs to be done.
  • It is the Client’s goals and dreams that move the coaching session forward.

What Coaching isn’t!

  • Un-like a therapist or counselor, a Coach does not look for a problem or a diagnosis.  The Coach sees the Client as whole and complete; capable of making decisions and having insights about their own life.
  • Un-like a trainer, a coach does not select workouts or recommend a rigorous routine for the client in order to attain a specific goal.
  • Un-like a consultant, a Coach does not have a pre-designed plan or solution to impart to the Client.  The Coach doesn’t arrive with a readymade action plan.
  • Un-like a friend, a Coach is not in the relationship based on equality, sharing or getting feedback from the Client. The relationship is not based on equal opportunities to grow and explore.
  • Un-like a Mentor, a Coach is not in the relationship to teach or guide the Client towards a particular vision or outlook that the Coach holds dear.

Why have a coach!

A coach is present for the client and has only their highest and best interests in mind. As a coach I hold a sacred space for you and listen deeply, beyond what you are saying to what you are thinking and dreaming about. I am present for what you are working through, and to how you are progressing and moving forward in your life and support you every step of the way.

Empower yourself towards your life’s true potential.
